Dehydrated Skin vs Dry Skin – what’s the difference?

We hear the complaint “I have dry skin,” often enough. But actually there’s a big difference between this and dehydrated skin.

If you are prone to very dry, flaky skin that gets worse in the winter months and is not oily to the touch then the chances are that this is certainly a dry skin condition.

But what about dehydrated skin?

This is actually very different.

If your skin is oily but still feels flaky, tight and dry in places it is much more likely that you suffer from dehydrated skin.

What causes dehydrated skin?

Well, there are a number of factors that cause this particular skin complaint. One of the most common issues is using alcohol-based make up removers or very harsh make up products that are unkind to your face. There’s also lifestyle factors, such as regular sauna visits or constant swimming. These activities can dry out the skin whilst still causing the pores to produce oil, if not counteracted with the correct treatments.
